Terms of use

For the Tokens for Good portal and the API.

1. About these terms

These terms apply when you use Tokens for Good: the portal, the API at api.tokensforgood.nl. The service is run by Tokens for Good (legal entity to be confirmed), based in the Netherlands. By creating an account or using an API key you agree to these terms. Our privacy policy explains how we handle data.

These terms are for schools and causes. There are no terms for donors who run the Tokens for Good agent yet; we plan to add them. Until then, see section 4 for what this means for your data.

2. The service

  • Tokens for Good gives vetted schools and causes free access to open AI models.
  • The models run on computers donated by companies and volunteers. Schools and causes pay nothing; donors are not paid.
  • We check every organisation before giving access. We may refuse an application without giving a reason, and we may withdraw access, for example when an organisation no longer serves a school or a good cause, or breaks these terms.
  • Each approved organisation gets a monthly token budget and rate limits. We may change them.

3. Your account and API keys

  • Give correct information about your organisation, and keep it up to date.
  • Keep your password and API keys secret. Only use them for your own organisation; do not share or sell them. You are responsible for what is done with your keys.
  • If a key may have leaked, revoke it on your dashboard straight away and tell us.

4. Your data and the open tier

Requests are processed in plain text on donated computers. The owner of such a computer could read them, and we cannot technically prevent that. There is no end-to-end encryption, and there are no donor terms yet that forbid donors to inspect content.

  • On the open tier (default) you may only send non-sensitive data. Do not send sensitive personal data: no health information, data about children, criminal records, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, political views, or identity and bank details. Also do not send other personal data about clients, beneficiaries, donors or staff, or confidential information.
  • If you need to process personal data, ask us about the trusted tier and a data processing agreement first. On the trusted tier your requests only go to machines of donors who are under contract and a data processing agreement with us.
  • You remain responsible for the data you send and for having a legal basis to process it.

5. Acceptable use

Use the service only for your organisation's work as a school or cause. Do not use it to:

  • break the law or help others do so;
  • create spam, scams, malware or misleading content, such as fake reviews or impersonation;
  • harass, threaten or discriminate against people, or create sexual content involving minors;
  • make automated decisions about people (such as eligibility for help) without a human checking the result;
  • resell access, or offer it to other organisations or the public as your own service;
  • attack, overload or test the security of the service or donor computers, or try to find out who a donor is or to influence a donor computer.

We may limit, suspend or end access when we suspect misuse. Where possible, we will tell you first.

6. AI output

  • AI models make mistakes. Answers can be wrong, incomplete or biased. Check them before you rely on them.
  • Do not use answers as medical, legal or financial advice without a qualified person checking them.
  • As far as we are concerned, you may use the answers as you like. Our default models are published under the Apache 2.0 licence.

7. No warranty

The service is free and provided "as is". It depends on volunteer computers that can go offline at any time. We do not promise that it is always available, fast or error-free, or that a request will be served.

8. Liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for damage caused by using the service, by its unavailability or by AI answers. This does not limit liability that cannot be limited under Dutch law, such as for intent or gross negligence.

TODO (legal review): check this clause, including any liability of donors.

9. Changes to the service and these terms

  • The service is new and will change. We may add, change or remove features, models, budgets and limits, or stop the service.
  • We may change these terms. For important changes we will tell approved organisations by email at least 30 days in advance. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply.
  • You can stop using the service at any time. Ask us to delete your account.

10. Law and contact

Dutch law applies. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands. Questions: hello@tokensforgood.nl.
