Helping a good cause right now

Tokens for Good, in your Mac’s notch

Answering 1 request

23 requests answered since it started

Your Mac answers their questions while it’s plugged in.

Whenever your Mac is plugged in and awake, a small app runs an open AI model that answers questions from schools and causes, and a heart in your notch beats while it gives.

Best on Macs with Apple silicon. Windows and Linux work too.

Plugged in, and giving

You turn it on. Then you forget it.

Most people never need to know how it works. Here is what it does, in three lines.

  1. It gives while plugged in.

Whenever your Mac is plugged in and awake, it runs an open model in the background, even while you work. No pop-ups, no timers.

  2. It answers real questions.

What you give is model access: the model on your Mac answers text questions from students and causes, from homework help to translations.

  3. The app never shows you their questions.

Only that your Mac helped. Your dashboard shows which causes. Students never see whose Mac answered. Sensitive work is only for donors under contract, with a data processing agreement.

When you give, the heart turns on.

It lives in your notch.

A small heart sits in the notch at the top of your screen and beats while your Mac is answering.

Point at it and it opens into a panel that shows whether your Mac is helping right now and how many requests it has answered, with a pause button: it takes no new questions until you resume. You can also click the heart in your menu bar and choose Pause or Resume.

Try it on this page.

The heart at the top of this page is an example of the same panel. Open it, or pause it from here and watch every heart on the page go still.

Every hour you give is an hour a student can ask.

Whenever your Mac is plugged in, at your desk or in the evening, it answers questions from schools and causes, and the heart in your notch beats while it does. It gives while your Mac is awake. When it sleeps, it waits. Here is one ordinary day, as an example.

A day at a desk, giving while plugged in

Example
Answering questionsYours alone

Plugged in and awake, it gives. On battery it pauses; asleep, it waits.

Plugged in

It gives from the wall. On battery it pauses by itself and carries on when you plug in again.

Awake, not asleep

It gives while your Mac is awake. When it sleeps, it waits.

Alongside your work

It runs quietly in the background, even while you work. Set hours are an advanced option, set from the command line.

Never more energy than good

One rule we are working towards: it only runs when the help it gives is worth more than the energy it uses, and it prefers efficient chips like Apple silicon. How that is measured is being decided.

It gives what you don’t need, and nothing more.

  • Plugged in

It gives from the wall, not from your battery. On battery it pauses by default, and resumes when you plug in.

  • Only while awake

When your Mac sleeps or the lid is closed, it waits. Set hours are an advanced option, from the command line.

  • Pause any time

Click the heart in your menu bar and choose Pause or Resume. While paused, it takes no new questions.

  • Never more energy than good

The aim: it only runs when the help is worth more than the energy, and prefers efficient chips. How that is measured is being decided.

A Mac, a plug and a little time away.

A Mac
One with Apple silicon is best, because it does the most work for each watt.
Or Windows or Linux
The app is made for the Mac, but Windows and Linux computers can give too.
Power
Plugged in. By default it pauses on battery, and you can choose to resume on battery.
Room for a model
The app picks the model by memory: gemma4:26b on Apple silicon with 32 GB or more, gemma4:12b with 16 GB or more, qwen3.5:4b on other Macs. It runs locally through Ollama, so it needs space on your disk.
A connection
Questions reach your Mac and answers go back over the internet, while it gives.
